“verbs and vignettes”…
I am so excited to be here!!!
A few years ago, I realized I wasn’t happy with the blog I had. The name felt off and I had worked myself into a box with the type of posts I was trying to write. I wasn’t enjoying it. I took a few months off, and decided to start fresh. I didn’t talk about or share the blog much, so I wasn’t worried about losing readers. And I didn’t care about my content. So I just left it and started new.
This time it’s a little different. I like what I’m creating on the blog, and I have a few readers. But it just felt like the wrong place to be. I didn’t like the name. And while that isn’t always the most important thing, I decided that if I would take my blog further, or try to grow it, or invest more time and care in it, I’d like to get set up at a place I was really happy with first.
So that brings us here. I’ve hemmed and hawed about making the switch to “self-hosted,” which just means I technically own my blog and URL instead of WordPress. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to spend the money on it, or if I wanted to worry about the extra details and tech stuff.
I decided to just go for it! If I was going to keep thinking about it and wondering if I could do it, why not actually test it in the meantime? I love the behind-the-scenes of blogging. So instead of admiring the other bloggers that made the jump, I realized there was nothing stopping me from giving it a try for myself.
This is the moving announcement I shared three years ago when I moved out of my parents’ house and got my own apartment. I thought it was pretty fitting for this blog move, too. Adorbs.
It’s only been a few days since I made the switch, and I spent those days importing from the old blog, modifying my design, and learning all sorts of random behind-the-scenes blog stuff. There are a ton of new little things to figure out, and I think that’s rad.
The old URL will redirect here for at least a year, but please change any saved links or RSS feeds to http://okenjoyblog.com. I changed my Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest handles to “okenjoyblog,” too. If you followed me before, you’re already following me now.
And I updated my about page.
I am so excited for my new space, and I hope you like it. I don’t think much will change regarding what I share. I’m learning and experimenting, sure. But that’s always the case.
So, welcome! Take a look around. And if you find anything that is out of place or doesn’t seem to be working, please let me know. OK, enjoy.
