i really love christmas.
and because dec 26 is not that exciting, i also love the time leading up to it.
our biggest tradition — my mama and me — is baking a lot of cookies.
we barely bake any through the rest of the year. but around christmas, it’s an extravaganza. we narrowed down to 14 cookies again this year (15 last year…?) from our original, oh, 22 or something.
it’s always way too many. but i love getting them all ready! and watch out if she chooses not to make someone’s favorite. last year everyone almost stopped talking to her over the “sandwich cookies” because we all remember sitting around the table growing up, each with a colored bowl of icing, and making the darn things. they are the smallest cookies ever, and took at least 3 hours of work. hahaha.
they’re back on the list this year.
EP’s birthday was earlier this month, and i never shared the photos. of course, i took the big dslr, and then felt silly bringing it out. with my family, i’m all over it. i don’t know what it is. sometimes i forget, and sometimes i feel silly. in 2013, i’ll work on it. i did get a few, though.
as for the rest of december, and merry making, there has been shopping, with mama, and diners for lunch —
and games of monopoly [that elephant you see is mine, but borrowed by EP for the game] —
and beautiful fires —
and delicious mugs of coffee [sometimes with festive chocolates] —
i also bought myself something this week. a gigantic christmas present, if you will. i’ll wait to share until i have a decent photo.
i’ll be linking this post to what i ate wednesday this week. do christmas cookies count? there was an egg white omelet in there for balance. ;-)
happy holidays, everybody! do you have any december traditions and festivities?
