i mentioned that EP and i went to atlantic city this weekend. it was sad timing, after hurricane sandy, but it was already booked, and the hotel was fine. out of our 41st story window, we saw them rebuilding a breaker.
the hotel had the longest escalators i’ve ever seen. pretty neat, until i got queasy riding back up to the room. elevator-only after the second attempt.
we laid around and relaxed all weekend… got massages… and ate some amazing food. what else would i write a mini-vacation recap about? food, naturally.
thursday, we got around to dinner late, after the drive down and check-in. we picked the italian restaurant. not the best food, but it was quiet because it was thursday, and we sat and talked over drinks. the waitress talked me into a roasted beet salad with yogurt. pretty interesting.
friday morning, we wandered downstairs for lattes and relaxed until massage time.
the best meal was friday night at the spanish restaurant — amada. we got to sit next to an obnoxious table that seemed to be a bachelor party. but there were flamenco dancers on a little stage nearby, and fun music. i didn’t get any photos of them! i didn’t even realize. ughhh. i was busy photographing our food.
we had a cheese plate to start that was beyond amazing. [i’m copying from the menu here because it was a little overwhelming.] aged manchego with truffled lavender honey; garlic dulce de leche [which i didn’t choose, but was my favorite thing]; and fresh queso with balsamic strawberries [that i thought EP would like, and i was right].
then i got…
butternut squash rice, blue cheese sauce, pepitas, and swiss chard. a vegetarian flatbread with confit artichoke, wild mushrooms, black truffles, and manchego. and chickpeas with spinach. everything had intense flavors [the truffle flatbread! and the chickpeas had smoked paprika that made them taste just like bacon], so i gave up earlier than i thought i would. but i was stuffed. EP said his steak was incredible.
and our farewell brunch on saturday included creme brulee french toast for me. it was stuffed with actual creme brulee. i’m glad i didn’t have this before our massage on friday. i would have been sleeping the rest of the day.
i’ll be linking the post up with what i ate wednesday later this week. it’s a weekly link party hosted by jenn at peas and crayons, where people share favorite eats from the week.
