i met my parents down the shore (yes: “down the shore”… i think this might be just a south jersey thing) for a day this week. since we’ve given up our trailer near sea isle, they found a little motel they like, and go down for a few days twice a summer.
we headed to the crab trap in somers point wednesday night. it used to be our favorite restaurant. for a vegetarian, it was a little rough. the lackluster mozzarella sticks went unphotographed, but i remember ordering them there all the time when i was little, so they were at least nostalgic.
we went to the back deck to wait for our table, and after being at work most of the day, it instantly turned into a great wednesday night. we had drinks and had a breeze off the ocean – i had a margarita because i was thinking about EP, and mama even had a white zinfandel.
the simple salad was excellent, with some red onions, blue cheese, and creamy italian dressing on the side.
what kind of restaurant offers blueberry muffins in their bread basket? i don’t know. and i don’t care. they made up for the mozzarella sticks.
thursday was a great day on the beach.
i finished divergent, which completely sucked me in. last week, i forced myself to stop so i would have at least 100 pages saved for the beach day. i’m going to have to go to barnes + noble this week to pick up the second one before my trip next weekend.
we rounded out my 24 hours off with a walk on the ocean city boardwalk. we tried a new pizza place for my mom (it was no mack + manco’s). the caramel corn was a hit, and the weather stayed fantastic until i made the ride back home around 10:00.
all in all, a lovely thursday off. hopefully i can fit in a couple more beach days before the season is over. september still counts, right…?
