sunday was my birthday. the big 2-7. it was a beautiful day… and it started on saturday night. :p
i’m repurposing the birthday post for “what i ate wednesday,” hosted by jenn at peas and crayons.
saturday night i went to maggiano’s with mama, papa, + EP.
dinner for the night included — a frozen bellini swirl; bruschetta; and eggplant parm.
i didn’t think we’d have a cake because we were going out, but my parents surprised me with one at the apartment before we left. my dad said it was his only chance to get this on the cake!
my favorite number when i was little was 2-7 [said just like that]. it was the channel for nickelodeon, and i think it’s the only number i knew for a long time. i used it any time i needed a number. one summer on the boardwalk we played one of those amusement park games, where you put a token on a number and if it spins to that number, you get a prize. my dad asked, and i looked at him like “of course you should know this!” 2-7. and it won. we were the only ones at the game. and he still tells the story.
did i mention that randomly, growing up 2.5 years later and totally unknown to me, it was EP’s favorite number, too. talk about a crazy similarity! it’s in all his email addresses and he said it was the number for all of his jerseys in peewee sports. :-)
the cake celebration ensued.
and it was delicious.
perfect cake shot compliments of EP. i was busy:
the next day, the celebration continued. we went out for a pancake breakfast.
chocolate chips for the birthday girl… banannas for EP.
and then we were off to a wedding! two of my college roommates eloped in november, and had their shindig on sunday. i was there when they met, and they’ve been together for the seven years since.
they are one of the most beautiful couples i’ve ever known, and are just incredible together. their wedding was funky + adorable + full of love, and it was just perfect.
they had a “sand ceremony,” and the pebbles slowed them down a little.
their first dance was a song called “january wedding,” and i’ve been humming it all day long. it was like a sweet little lullaby.
it alternated between perfect weather and thunderstorms all day, but cooperated any time we needed to be away from the awnings.
our fancy meal started with — asparagus cheese puffs, bruschetta, and caprese skewers. one of my friends caught me, and said “are you taking photos of your food?!” i angrily turned the camera on her. [she’s also going to be the first mama in our group! they’re due in september.]
then — salad, followed by the veggie option. i always worry when i only see vegetables, but this plate was delicious! polenta, and the best grilled potatoes i may have ever had, green beans, and a stack of grilled veggies hiding a portabella mushroom.
their wedding cake matched their green theme [color, not environment], and it was gorgeous. they also had converses made for the occasion, complete with my day stitched on them! [i wish i got a better photo of her handmade dress. she stitched coordinates around the bottom of important places in their relationship. i couldn’t make this up! they are fantastic.]
i got a big surprise, too.
the bride danced with her dad, and she cut the cake with the groom. then they announced that they were sharing their day with someone else, and that there was a birthday! a woman came out with a slice of cake + birthday candles, and i got to grin and blush as 200 people sang happy birthday to me. EP took a video, but we can’t get it onto my computer just yet. :-) too much.
it was an amazing birthday for the big 2-7. i’ll make sure the festivities continue throughout the month, as usual. ;-)
